I love quotes. Why? Because there is nothing new under the sun. If you’ve had a thought, someone has probably had the same or a very similar thought somewhere else in time. Every now and then someone knows just how to say something in a way that resonates deep within us.
Today’s post is a tribute to some late greats (or maybe even some still amongst the living!) and the wise words they’ve coined. Hopefully, it will bring you some inspiration!
Quotes to Give Your Perspective
“Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer. Go some distance away because then the work appears smaller and more of it can be taken in at a glance and a lack of harmony and proportion is more readily seen.” – Leonardi da Vinci
I love this one ‘cus it reminds us to take breaks. Furthermore, it reminds us to change our perspective before judging our work. Leonardi, created some masterpieces so I tend to trust his opinion on perspective. 😉
“Opposites attract. If two people just alike get married, one of you is unnecessary.” – Larry Burkett
Hahaha on that one! I’m not even married but I know if I were to marry someone just like me, they would drive me crazy. It’s all about balancing each other out, yes? Maybe some of you married folks can chime in…
“The only way to get love is to be lovable. It’s very irritating if you have a lot of money. You’d like to think you could write a check: ‘I’ll buy a million dollars worth of love.’ But it doesn’t work that way. The more you give love away, the more you get. ” – Warren Buffet
This one is so great because Warren Buffet is definitely a man of wealth and wisdom. But his last sentence unlocks the door to love’s mysteries.
Quotes About Past Reconciliation
“You’ve got to always go back in time if you want to move forward.” – Snoop Dogg
This is very profound, Snoop! In my recovery from addiction, I had to be willing to look at the past. Moreover, I needed to reconcile with it, identify my part, make amends, forgive, be forgiven and forge new healthy relationships.
I wouldn’t be who I am today if I hadn’t looked back. However, we don’t want to linger in the past which leads me to the next quote…
“Think about regret like the rearview mirror in your car. You check it every once in a while to keep yourself from making terrible mistakes while you’re driving. But why is that little mirror so small and the windshield of your car so big? Because you are supposed to look forward.” – Chris Hogan
Sure you gotta glance back but only so that you can keep moving forward.
I know of no single formula for success. But over the years I have observed that some attributes of leadership are universal and are often about finding ways of encouraging people to combine their efforts, their talents, their insights, their enthusiasm, and their inspiration to work together.” – Queen Elizabeth II
There is no I in team. We need each other to accomplish great things and great leaders have a way of bringing people together.
The temptation to take the easy road is always there. It is as easy as staying in bed in the morning and sleeping in. But discipline is paramount to ultimate success and victory for any leader and any team.” – Jocko Willink
“Live like no one else so later you can live and give like no one else. ” – Dave Ramsey
Be willing to make sacrifices in the short run so that things can be different in the long run. Of course, Dave was talking about money with this quote and I wholeheartedly agree.
“Wealth is the ability to fully experience life.” – Henry David Thoreau
“My mother had taught shorthand and typing to support us since my father died, and secretly she hated it and hated him for dying and leaving no money because he didn’t trust life insurance salesmen.” – Sylvia Plath
That should convict us all to get a term life policy to protect our loved ones.
“I try to treat all the money I’m making like it’s the last time I’m going to make it.” – Eminem
Do you like how I’m sneaking in some rappers?! Ole’ Eminem coming through with a little wisdom. I like this one because if you treat your money like there might not be more, you’ll find ways to save and grow that stash!
Quotes About Generosity
“Your own soul is nourished when you are kind; it is destroyed when you are cruel.” – King Solomon
I just wrote a post about the ways you can be a generous person. Kindness ranks right up there!
“Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So, spread your love everywhere you go.” – Mother Teresa
Oh, Mother Teresa – Yes x1000!!!
Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.” Mark Twain
To me, this is the most eloquent way to describe undeserved forgiveness.
And the final one I’ll leave you with is actually a prayer. It’s the prayer of Saint Francis and even if you are not a Christian I propose you read it with an open mind. There are some good nuggets in it:
Where there is hatred let me sow love
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy
not so much seek to be consoled as to console
to be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love
For it is in giving that we receive
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it’s in dying that we are born to eternal life
Okay, I don’t have much else to say after all of these inspiring words, except peace out and keep living your best life!
